Rose Pettijohn grew up watching her Mom make magic happen with a sewing machine. When they moved to a new house her mom made curtains, at Halloween she sewed costumes and one of Rose's favorite things was a big blue quilt. Rose started quilting about ten years ago while pregnant with her first son with the belief that every child should have something handmade. She has since expanded into receiving blankets, burp cloths, pillows, bags, Christmas stockings, ornaments and a variety of other handmade goods.
Much of her work is created using repurposed fabrics. She cleans up vintage sheets, finds old upholstery samples and deconstructs garments. Her favorite fabrics have childhood classics from shows she grew up watching like cartoons and comic book characters. She also enjoys working with fabrics that have a mid century style to them. These all give her pieces a retro and nostalgic look. She makes a lot, but she wants to make every piece memorable.
You can find her work at Southern Vintage Co. in Bartlett, TN, Sheffields in Collierville, TN and online at www.PettijohnTextiles.com .
